The first PERT in WA

The first Pulmonary Embolus Response Team (PERT) in Western Australia has been launched at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital to support patients across the organisation.   PERT is providing a structured, rapid response and evidence-based approach to the assessment and management of patients across the organisation with suspected or confirmed Pulmonary Embolus (PE).   PE is a life-threatening medical emergency caused by a blood clot that travels from elsewhere in the body. It is the second most common reason patients are admitted to the respiratory ward at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. The new service has been designed to enhance patient outcomes with a multidisciplinary team working together to review patient history, examination findings and results of investigations to decide on the most appropriate treatment.
